When Mrs. Pheon Walker began renting her small three bedroom one bath home it was just her and her two sons.  However, in 2003 her daughter died leaving Mrs. Walker to care for her four grandchildren.  Jasmine is 15 and attending the High School.  Rashi is at St. Marys Middle School and he is in the sixth grade.  Jaela is nine and she goes to St. Marys Elementary School.  Travious attends Krayons Daycare and is 3 years old.  Her two adult sons still reside in the home to help with the care of their nieces and nephews.  Her current living conditions are very small for seven people.  Privacy is very important to Jasmine at 15 years old.  She has moved onto the back porch/ laundry room.  She has no room for personal belongings and the room has no central heat or air.  Rashi and Travious share a bedroom and Mrs. Walker shares her room with Jaela.

The home is in downtown St. Marys and with the recent increase in land and housing prices Mrs. Walker fears her rental will soon be sold.  She has made all repairs to the home herself due to her concern with the landlord selling the house.  However, it is an older home and more repairs should be made.  The flooring in the house is rotting and a few of the windows, also.   The plumbing needs to be updated and the floor in the bathroom is sagging and weak.  The electrical wiring needs to be updated as well.  There are electrical issues and some outlets don’t work.

Mrs. Walker has lived in Camden County all of her life.  She has worked at the convalescent center for 16 years and loves her job.  She attends the Greater Trinity Methodist Church.  She feels very blessed to have been approved for a new Habitat home.  This will give the children the space they need as they grow.  The Walker family will be the recipients of the 10th Anniversary House.  This is a wonderful partnership due to Mrs. Walker’s long commitment to the community of Camden County.
